Tucked into a placid corner of the Cannaregio area, this walk explores the enduring legacy of the world's first Jewish ghetto. This fascinating walk has been specially designed to reveal an aspect of the city most visitors never see as one refracted through the rich Jewish history of the lagoon city.

The Jewish community in Venice is still alive and thriving; thus, the walk offers the opportunity to interact with the new generation of scholars and devotees, as well as exploring the history and customs of a little known aspect of Venetian culture.

Please Note: Entrance tickets are not included in the price ofthe tour (10 Euros per person) and must be purchased on the day of the tour.

    Itinerary

You will begin the walk by stepping into the ghetto, the home of the Jewish Venetian community (so vividly depicted in Shakespeare's Merchant of Venice)...founded in 1516; its quiet fascination and serenity entrances all.

Time will be spent visiting the Synagogue, which brings special insight to the ghetto and its religious practices - as well as two moving memorials to Italian Jews lost in World Wars I and II.

The group may also have the chance to meet the owner of a local kosher bakery and enjoy a taste of the beautiful, lace-like flatbread known as pane azzime (Venetian matzoh).

The aim of this private walking tour is to reconstruct what it was like to live during the Renaissance period. Factors include the layout and decoration of the domestic home, which you will view and discuss during your time in the Ca' d'Oro.

    [short_description] =>

Architectural decoration and an exploration of the lagoon's urban fabric can be used to understand the daily life of Venetians during the Renaissance period. You and your scholar guide will spend some time discussing how Renaissance Venetians made a living, what they did in their leisure time and how they moved about the city.

As you stroll the back streets of the city, you will study architectural and spatial elements that characterized the city when it was at the height of its powers. Discussions will concern public and private life, and contrast the experiences of women and men, the rich and the humble.

Please Note: This tour does not require entry into sites requiring admission fees, but the group may decide on the day of the tour to enter such a site. If so, per-person entrance fees will need to be paid on the day of the tour.

    More Tour Details

During the course of your walk, you will learn  to "read" much of the history by studying the decorations of the palaces and even the street names. You will also explore the social and political functions of the city's open spaces. The tour will come into contact with some decorative motifs found on Venetian houses that will help form your understanding of issues of visibility, communication and politically inspired decoration.

The walk will also introduce issues of clothing, etiquette and personal hygiene in order to obtain a more intimate understanding of the sacrifices individuals were prepared to make in order to appear "fashionable." In covering these topics, the walk will touch upon wider issues of identity, sex, gender and class in the Renaissance period. It will also allow you to have a better understanding of how the city itself was developed and used by the Venetians during this time.

    Itinerary

Your tour starts by visiting the twin hearts of Venice’s food scene - the Rialto Fruit and Vegetable Market and the Rialto Fish Market. As you peruse the overflowing aisles, your guide will explain how ancient trade routes and a strong maritime history have shaped the diets of Venetians, and how they still get the freshest fish from the Mediterranean.

All this talk of food will make you hungry, so you'll sample sumptuous local wine and cicchetti along the way. On this side of the Grand Canal, you’ll stop at two of Venice’s most popular local bars. The cicchetti is Venice’s answer to the Spanish tapas and includes local delicacies like crostini (bread with delicious toppings like whipped cod) and Venetian panini (technically sandwiches, but so much more). At each bar, your guide will help you to choose two of the best cicchetti and of course a glass of wine, Prosecco or spritz to wash it down.

Next you’ll board a gondola to cross the Grand Canal to Cannaregio. Once known as the Jewish Ghetto and surrounded by walls to keep residents in, Cannaregio is a favorite among locals today for its great food scene, beautiful streets and piazzas and its much more relaxed vibe away from the tourist route.

Your adventure here continues to another local bar for a different kind of cicchetti. Fritti is a common dish of fried fish or vegetables made popular in this area. In fact, you’ll probably be shocked to learn just how much of Venetian food (and Italian food as a whole) has been influenced by the Jewish community. We’ll take the fritti as the locals do – on a stick, to go – and embark on a short stroll across bridges and piazzas of Cannaregio.

Your tour culminates in a stop at the guides' favorite Venetian restaurant - a friendly and atmospheric neighborhood trattoria called La Colonna. Here you’ll be warmly greeted by the host and served a plate of the day’s pasta special, washed down of course, with another glass of wine.

With intimate groups of 12 people or fewer, it's not enough to just eat well for a day; the guides want to show you how to eat like a Venetian for your entire stay, giving you the best recommendations for when, where and how to eat so you’ll never again endure another over-priced, touristy meal in Venice.

Take a private tour of this masterpiece of Gothic architecture, the Palazzo Ducale, a great layering structure of constructive and ornamental elements: from fourteenth ancient foundations to sizable Renaissance. RATES ARE PER GROUP.

This tour features special equipment and staff training, specifically to assist disabled persons and their families, and your tour guides are experts in the level of accessibility and challenges faced in each location visited.

The Palazzo Ducale consists of three main bodies that incorporate previous constructions: the wing to the St. Mark’s Basin, the oldest, which contains the Hall of Great Council, the wing towards the Square, formerly Justice Palace, the Hall of Poll, and the Renaissance wing with the residence of the doge and many government offices. The courtyard leads to the four wings. The first plan, called the Loggia, allows a walk along the three wings east, south and west of the palace, with beautiful views over the courtyard and the Piazzetta San Marco.

    [description] =>

This Palazzo Ducale houses the Office for the Environmental and Architectural Heritage of Venice and some offices of the Directorate of Museums in Venice. From here you'll proceed through the Renaissance wing to the Golden Staircase. The apartments of the Doge, the Institutional rooms, where they held the political and administrative life of the republic. Here are the salt of the principal organs of the Government of the Republic of Venice: the Grand Council, the Senate, the College, and the most important magistrates of Justice, the Council of Ten to forty.

In all rooms the decorative program is always deeply consistent with the celebration of the virtues of the State and the functions it performs. From the second half of the sixteenth century, it was decided to construct a new building across the Rio di Palazzo fully intended to work as a prison, with rooms to use by judges of the Criminal night. The construction of these new prisons was intended to improve the living conditions of prisoners with larger cells. You continue with the two lower floors and the courtyard of the prison, following a route that shows a collection of pottery from excavations in the area. This trail then connects to the bridge of Sighs and the Hall of Censors.

The Bridge of Sighs was built in 1614 to join the Doge’s Palace to the building adjacent to the new prisons; closed and covered it consists of two corridors separated by a wall. One connects the Halls of Prisons, to the Judge Laws, to the Criminal and to the Forty on the main floor of the Palazzo Ducale, the other connects the Prisons with the salt of Avogaria and the Parlatory. Both corridors are linked to the “service stairs” that from the Pozzi brings to the Leads.

The famous Ponte dei Sospiri, which nickname dates back to the romantic period, refers to the sigh of the prisoners, leaving the court building to cross the bridge to reach the cell in which he would serve the penalty, seeing through the small windows, freedom. At the end the rooms of weapons today are a valuable museum of weapons and ammunition.

    Itinerary

Your guide meets you at St. Mark’s Square. Through thrilling anecdotes and swashbuckling stories, learn about the history of Venice and St. Mark’s Basilica - like how it received its precious relics via a 9th-century kidnapping!

But then comes the real treat. All of the passersby will wonder where you’re going as a custodian unlocks the basilica’s doors for you and the others in your small group of maximum 15 persons...and walks you right in.

Inside, take a deep breath. You’re experiencing St. Mark’s Basilica as almost nobody else does, or ever has ever been able to (aside from the Doge himself) - empty! No standing elbow-to-elbow with other tourists, no seeing the church as if through a strobe light from hundreds of popping flashbulbs, no noise from the crowds. Instead, you’re alone with your guide and the custodian. So you can experience the basilica as it should be experienced: in tranquility and peace.

Of course, you’ll also be able to skip all the lines - not only into the basilica, but also to see the Pala d’Oro, the spectacular, Byzantine altarpiece that includes more than 1,900 gems. During the day, there’s a line to see this, but now? You have it almost all to yourself.

Since you’re alone in the basilica with your group only, you can even go where others, visiting during the day, can’t. Like the crypt, which the custodian unlocks for you. This is where the bones of St. Mark are said to actually be kept. Plus, you can see the stained walls here from the past floods that have devastated Venice. The crypt used to be flooded every time a high tide hit the city.

Aside from the emptiness of the basilica, nighttime is the best time to visit because that’s when the mosaics are at their most beautiful. All 43,000 square feet are lit up, glimmering and sparkling in the dark!

If just seeing the basilica this way wasn’t entrancing enough, there’s also your guide - an expert who’s passionate about Venetian art and history...and about sharing it with you in the most fun way possible. You’ll hear the tale of how St. Mark’s became St. Mark’s, a story that pivots on a kidnapping and and a dangerous sea voyage. You’ll learn where the precious marbles decorating St. Mark’s really come from...and more.

This is a one-hour tour that will give you memories to last a lifetime!

    Itinerary

You can’t go to Venice without visiting St. Mark’s Basilica and the Doge's Palace, the city’s two top sites. So, why not make the experience as enjoyable, educational and easy as possible? Take a few hours of your time for this tour and you’ll feel like you didn’t just “do” these sites - you experienced them in the most rewarding, fascinating way possible. You will not only enjoy privileged access to the Doge’s Palace, minimizing your time in line, but you will get private access to St. Mark's Basilica after hours.

Start with a guided tour of the Doge's Palace. What the Vatican is to Rome, the Doge's Palace is to Venice. For 700 years the remarkable palace has been the home of not only the Doge, but of Venice’s independent government, courts and even prisons.

Visit the center of Venice’s power and history at Palazzo Ducale, including the sumptuous Doge’s apartments and the Hall of the Great Council with its stunning frescoes by Veronese and Tintoretto. Discover the secret stories behind the artworks, like why one doge in the painted series is covered by a black veil. Learn the history of Venice’s famed Dukes - how they were chosen, what they did and why you may not have wanted the position for yourself.

On this guided tour you’ll have the opportunity to explore the massive armory and the spooky prisons. Finish with a visit inside the Bridge of Sighs, where your guide will tell you why it’s not quite as romantic as you thought.

After a short break, you will continue to St. Mark's Basilica (already closed to the public for the day) where a custodian unlocks the Basilica’s doors for you, walking you inside Venice’s most important site - when no other tourists are there!

Inside, take a deep breath. You’re experiencing St. Mark’s Basilica as almost nobody else does, or ever has ever been able to, aside from the Doge himself. You’ll experience the basilica as it should be experienced; in tranquility and peace.

Explore the three most famous islands of the Venetian Lagoon. This extremely relaxing private tour combines many different characteristics of Venice: the natural beauty, craftsmanship, a genuine fisherman village atmosphere and the history of the earliest days.

Murano is the island famous for its glass-making, a traditional activity that still preserves the ancient techniques. You will admire the glass masters at work while producing the beautiful objects which have made them famous all over the world.

Burano is the most cheerful and popular of the lagoon islands. Its brightly painted houses give it the air of an Italian opera set, while the success of its most important industries, lace making, fishing and boat building, accounts for the well-being of its people.

Torcello can be considered the “Mother of Venice” and was settled by the fist waves of refugees from the Barbarian invasions on the Mainland. Today the island is nearly uninhabited (residents being reduced to 12). Covered by a rich typical vegetation, Torcello preserves the most ancient monument of the Lagoon: the solemn Basilica of Santa Maria Assunta, founded in 639 and rebuilt in 1008, decorated with outstanding Byzantine mosaics.

Enjoy skip the line access to two of the most impressive and important buildings in Venice - St. Mark's Cathedral and the Doge's Palace.

Admire the magnificent mosaics in St. Mark's while you hear the improbable story of its construction and how it came to house all its treasures. You'll also get special access to the terraces of the basilica with spectacular views of Venice.

Visit the Doge's apartments, the Hall of the Great Council, the Armory and the New Prisons in the Doge's Palace.

Take in the view from the Bridge of Sighs, too, and enjoy your three hour tour with an intimate group of 15 people or fewer.

    [description] =>

    Itinerary

Your tour starts in the world-famous St. Mark’s Square, taking a moment to appreciate the space before diving into St. Mark’s Cathedral. With access to the group entrance, you’ll avoid long general access lines. Here you will get a deep look at the way that Venice built a mercantile empire that once spanned the entire Mediterranean. As you gape at the mosaics and other treasures inside, your expert Venetian guide will explain how the city begged, borrowed - and yes, stole - almost all of them as it grew from a tiny island to one of the biggest powers in the Medieval world. You’ll also get special access to the first floor terrace where you can see the famous horses stolen from Constantinople during the Fourth Crusade as well as amazing views over St Mark’s Square and the city.

Next it’s off to the Doge’s Palace, where pre-reserved tickets once again get you past the lines and inside to see what was the political heart of the empire for hundreds of years. Here you’ll visit the Doge’s own opulent apartments and the Hall of the Great Council where matters of state were decided under beautiful frescoes by Veronese and Tintoretto, You’ll also see the armory and the New Prisons where you’ll learn about the grim lives of anyone unlucky enough to be taken prisoner. You’ll also find out the secret behind the mysterious black veil that interrupts the official series of Doge’s portraits. Hint: it will make you not want to work in Venetian government!

Finally, you’ll wander over the Bridge of Sighs and learn why this romantic icon is a little more grim than you have probably been taught.

Venice is a beautiful city but it doesn’t really come to life until you have an expert, local Venetian guide to show you around and tell you the stories that take you deep into the history and lore of the city. In a small group of no more than 15 people, you will have intimate access to your guide and be able to ask all the questions you want about improbable history of one of the world’s most unique cities.

Once the epicenter of the wealthiest and most powerful in Europe, St Mark's Square was the crossroads to the medieval world's most fascinating places, a glorious homage to human ingenuity and faith in the merchant's skill...a game of chance.

Nothing compares with seeing St. Mark's Basilica bathed in a golden afternoon light, embracing a millennium of glorious history as the sun glints off its domed sentinels and gleaming façades. This tour does enter St. Mark's Basilica and the tour time has been set when it is least crowded.

Experience with your talented Venice tour guides what "La Serenissima" means - and has meant - to Venetians over the centuries. See the hauntingly beautiful and aptly named Bridge of Sighs, where the sighs and cries of the condemned echo over the centuries, chasing reflections through the colour-dappled surfaces of myriad canals.

    Itinerary

In this walk is the possibility to visit churches such as San Zaccaria which contains stunning 15th century altarpieces, as well as one of Giovanni Bellini's most famous works. A discussion of Bellini will give you insight into the workshop practices of the day and the slow progression of thought from the artist as laborer to the artist as genius.

From San Zaccaria, the tour may continue to the Scuola di S.Giorgio degli Schiavoni, which raises interesting issues of the immigrant populations in Venice and the social role played by the confraternities (scuole). The scuola contains a series of paintings by Carpaccio which are still in situ, and which depict miracles of St. George, St. Tryphon and St. Jerome.

Throughout the walk, you'll have a chance to intertwine the artistic and social history of Venice, relating the doges' tombs to political makeup of the city and the exploring the fascinating connection between the many lay confraternities in Venice and the art patronage of the city. At the end of the walk, you will come away with a strong understanding of the early Renaissance in Venice and how it laid the foundation for the splendors of the high Renaissance artists who followed.

    Itinerary

Your day starts early in Venice, from where you’ll be spirited away to Verona in an air-conditioned mini bus, straight to a photo stop at Colle di San Pietro. Enjoy the panoramic views of Verona from above and learn to understand why it was the perfect setting for the world’s greatest romance. Starting your Verona tour from the foot of a castle overlooking the town, you’ll take it all in at once - the towering spires, the castle walls, the river that hugs its curves. Verona is as romantic as it gets!

After some stunning photos from the viewpoint (sure to be the envy of your friends), you’ll take a lovely walk down into the city. Along the way, you’ll stop off for a skip the line visit to the ancient Roman amphitheatre, a 1st century marvel that is one of the greatest amphitheatres in Italy and also among the top opera venues in the world. You’ll also see the Verona Duomo from the outside and pop into the beautiful Basilica of Saint Anastasia.

Then it’s on to Verona’s top attraction - the home of Shakespeare’s Juliet...where, from the outside, you gaze up at the famed balcony where Romeo is said to have done his wooing. There is also a statue of Juliet herself whose breast you can rub for good luck - just make sure Romeo’s not around.

With that box ticked, you'll be taken into the historic center of Verona to uncover the real story of the city that served as the colorful backdrop for Shakespeare’s classic. You’ll visit the gorgeous plazas, Piazza Bra and Piazza delle Erbe, to see the Palazzo Maffei, the Palazzo Barbieri (Town Hall) and the famous Mazzanti Houses whose facades are decorated with beautiful 16th-century frescoes. You’ll also stop by the Piazza Dante to pay your respects at the statue of Italy’s most famous writer.

Lunch is NOT included, but you can choose where you want to eat or ask your guide for recommendations. Local specialties include risotto, polenta and even donkey meat!

The afternoon will include a walk along the river past the Casa di Romeo - yes, that Romeo - and two very famous arches - the ancient Roman gates of Porta Borsari and the Arco della Costa - where you’ll learn about one of most bizarre local legends ever (it involves a pure-hearted person and a dangling whale bone).

You’ll also get a chance to pay your respects at the Scaligeri family tombs - incredible examples of gothic architecture that hold the remains of one of Verona’s most important families. Gape up at Lamberti tower and saunter over the iconic Castelvecchio bridge, all before your guide puts you back on the train to Venice. This excursion ends at the Santa Lucia Train Station in Venice.

This small group tour offers unparalleled access to your expert, English-speaking guide. In their capable company, you won’t just see Verona...you’ll walk through the heart of its history and culture to get a deep, personal understanding of what makes it such a special place!

    Itinerary

Discover the Doge’s Palace in the most complete and rewarding way possible with an expert guide, entertaining anecdotes and by exploring what 99% of visitors to the Doge’s Palace never get to see. We’re talking, of course, about the secret passages, the palace’s hidden labyrinth of secret meeting halls, offices, torture chambers and top-security prison cells!

By exploring the secret passages, you get away from the crowds elsewhere in the Doge’s Palace and walk in the footsteps of Venice’s most colorful characters. Your guide's favorite? Casanova, the legendary brigand (yes, he did exist!). As you’ll learn, he deserves all of the lore. Against all odds, he was able to escape his cell here in the palace, a cell you’ll get to see exclusively in the secret passages tour.

As well as hearing Venice’s juiciest stories, a visit to the secret passages means getting to walk through the hidden cells and rooms - parts of the palace that not only most visitors don’t see, but that the vast majority of Venetians in the past never knew about, either. Exploring the secret rooms with their antique cabinets and creaky floors will truly make you feel as if you’ve stepped back in time.

You will also discover the rest of the Doge’s Palace with your expert guide, from the Doge’s own lavish apartments to the Hall of the Great Council, where the city’s all-important general assembly made decisions. Admire the beautiful and dramatic paintings by Veronese and Tintoretto and explore the magnificent halls that demonstrate the prestige of the Most Serene Venetian Republic. What the Vatican is to Rome, the Doge's Palace is to Venice. For seven hundred years, the remarkable palace has been the home of not only the Doge, but of Venice’s independent government, courts and even prisons.

At the end of your Doge’s Palace Tour, get a comprehensive tour of St. Mark’s Basilica. With access to the group entrance you’ll avoid long general access lines. Here you will get a deep look at the way that Venice built a mercantile empire that once spanned the entire Mediterranean. As you gape at the mosaics and other treasures inside, your expert Venetian guide will explain how the city begged, borrowed and yes, stole, almost all of them as it grew from a tiny island to one of the biggest powers in the Medieval world.

Leave no stone unturned - or door unopened - on this complete, comprehensive and thoroughly VIP exploration of Venice’s most historic site!

    Itinerary

Part of the beauty of Venice is its wealth of art still in-situ, and this tour will focus on the churches and scuole of the San Polo sestiere. The great scuole of Venice dominated public life, participating in lavish processions to proclaim the glory of the Republic and decorating their meeting halls with works by Venetian masters.

The Scuola of San Rocco is no exception, with over 50 canvases painted by the 16th century master Tintoretto. His distinct style, with dramatic radiations of light, will certainly make him stand apart from many other Italian artists. This tour spends a significant amount of time examining the art of Tintoretto, both in terms of style and in the context of the confraternity. Not just satisfied to expound the glory of Venice through art, confraternities were also essential in performing charitable works, especially in times of plague.

The Scuola of San Giovanni Evangelist, the second oldest confraternity in Venice, provides a nice architectural contrast to that of San Rocco and one can still view a plaque describing the plague of 1348.

Just next door, the Chiesa dei Frari, built by the Franciscans, again reminds us of the importance of artistic commissions in the life of Renaissance Venetians and provides a microcosm of Venetian art and history from the 14th century onwards. The two important altarpieces by Titian - The Assumption of Mary and the Madonna of Ca' Pesaro - contained in this church would be reason enough to explore, and its further works by Bellini and Donatello only add to its value. Here you will be able to compare and contrast the work of Titian to his forefather, Giovanni Bellini, and with his successor, keeping in mind the work of Tintoretto.

While focusing on the specific art viewed, you and your scholar guide will also explore themes of social history, such as the role of the scuole in Venetian life, the effects of the plague and the competition between artists for important commissions.

    Important

You will be visiting several churches during this visit. Shoulders should be covered and shorts and skirts should not come to more than one inch above the knee. If you are taking this walk in the summer months, you may consider bringing a light shawl to cover your shoulders while entering churches.

If you are traveling between November and March, there is a chance you will experience Venice's famous acqua alta. You might prepare yourself by bringing along rubber boots or purchasing some upon arrival to Venice.

6 Days Minimum Advance Booking Required. Minimum age is 13. Minimum 2 persons per order. Although you will be prepaid for the walking tour, you are responsible for purchasing entrance tickets to any churches that require it the day of the walk (Scuola di San Rocco (10 Euros) and Chiesa dei Frari (3 Euros). Torcello is noted for being the first island to be settled in the Venetian Lagoon: the inhabitants of Altino moved here in the fifth and the sixth century. The cathedral built around the year 1000 preserves the wonderful mosaic depicting the Last Judgment, very similar to those found in the Baptistery of Florence. But the island today is known as a place of rest. With just over 20 residents, it seems to be a place in another dimension.

Burano, inhabited island of Venice, has about 3000 people. It is known mostly for its handmade lace and biscuits, “bussolai” but also for the lively colorful houses that residents said they painted of different colors to make them recognizable to the fishermen when they returned home during periods of fog .

Murano is known worldwide for the production of artistic glass blowing. Initially, the production took place in Venice, but at the time the buildings were made of wood, and often the fire of the kilns escaped accidentally causing numerous fires. So the republic was ordered to move the seat of the furnaces to this island in which stands the Church of Santa Maria and Donato, known for its paintings by Bellini and Veronese. Also on the island you can visit the Glass Museum which contains a large collection of very old glass works.

The Burchiello was a typical Venetian passenger boat with a large wooden cabin with three or four balconies, beautifully carved and decorated. The burchielli were used by the wealthier classes to reach Venice from their country villas.

Today all motored boats traveling through the River of Brenta from Venice are commonly called burchielli; heirs of ancient traditions, these modern and comfortable boats ply the waters of the Brenta slow pace, while the guides will show you history, culture and art evidenced by the Brenta Villas.

Enjoy a private orientation to Venice by boat, led by a local social historian. This is a great tour to enjoy early in your Venice visit!

    [short_description] =>

There is no better way to get acquainted with Venice than by water. Your local social historian guide will spend a certain amount of time explaining the specific sites along the route; but will also try to situate you in the city, orient you to the major areas and answer any of your questions. In short, it is an excellent walk to take at the beginning of your stay in Venice.

Inseparable from the city itself, the canals and waterways of Venice have inspired the musings of Hemingway, Byron, and James, among others.

    Itinerary

This Venice by Boat orientation is designed to give you a taste of the rich history and architecture of Venice. While you'll spend the last hour passing through the iconic Grand Canal, the first portion of this journey will allow you to get acquainted with some of the smaller canals that help weave a tale of the history of Venice.

From the private boat (which is covered), your guide will point out the important aspects of these islands, as well as introducing you to the characteristics of the different Venetian neighborhoods, known as sestieri.

A veritable jewel box of opulent Venetian architecture...the Grand Canal, which serves as the main artery of Venice...will end your orientation. The guide will point out noteworthy sites and palazzi, as well as help you get oriented to this complex and unique city. As an orientation, this experience is lighter in flavor than in-depth walks and is usually led by guides who currently live, or have lived, in Venice for a number of years.

The boat is covered, so this visit can run during light rain.

During the Fall and Winter months, guides advise dressing warmly, as temperatures drop in the evening and it is cooler on the open water. During the Summer, please bring sunscreen and any other protection you might need from the sun.

If you are traveling between November and March, there is a chance you will experience Venice's famous acqua alta. You might prepare yourself by bringing along rubber boots or purchasing some upon arrival to Venice.

5 Days Minimum Advance Booking Required. This tour does not offer hotel pick ups or drop offs. Please order online or call to order or for more information.

    Itinerary

One day to see all the top attractions in Venice? This Venice In a Day Tour will take you to all the top attractions in the company of some of the best guides in the city.

Start your day early on the Rialto bridge before the crowds arrive. After meeting your local Venetian guide and snapping some of those all-important pictures, it's off to the Rialto Fish Market to learn about the rich culinary history of the city, get restaurant recommendations and see how the chefs and mamas of Venice source their food.

Next you’ll set off into the most authentic and atmospheric neighborhoods in Venice for an intimate walking tour that will acquaint you with the city at street level. Along the way, you’ll see the childhood home of Marco Polo, the Venetian merchant who brought Europe the first account of China...and discover how the “Church of Miracles” got its name – plus so much more!

It’s not all walking though. Because Venice is as much in the sea as it is on the land, you’ll step into a gondola (max 6 people per gondola) for a relaxing all inclusive ride through the world-famous canals. Considering that independent rides usually cost around €80, this is quite a bargain.

After disembarking, it’s time for some serious historical and artistic exploration. You’ll also head off the normal tourist track to the special access terrace for a look at the famous horse sculptures and tiling as well as jaw-dropping views of Venice.

Next, you'll head to the Doge’s Palace which was the center of Venice’s maritime empire for hundreds of years. As you wander the corridors of power your guide will fill you in on all the skullduggery that went on behind the scenes, from Casanova’s prison break to the Duke whose faced was blacked out of every portrait and painting.

With your expert, English-speaking, local tour guide and intimate groups of 15 people or fewer, you’ll see a side of Venice that few visitors ever get to experience. You'll go under the skin of perhaps world’s most unique city, revealing the rich culture and history that sits just below the surface, just waiting to be discovered.

From real estate prices to how to get around when the city floods, you can ask your guide almost anything in your small group of no more than 12 fellow travelers.

Next it is off to the world-famous St. Mark’s Square, taking a moment to appreciate the space before diving into St. Mark’s Cathedral - and with access to the group entrance, you’ll avoid long general access lines. Here you will get a deep look at the way that Venice built a mercantile empire that once spanned the entire Mediterranean. As you gape at the mosaics and other treasures inside, your expert Venetian guide will explain how the city begged, borrowed, and yes, stole, almost all of them as it grew from a tiny island to one of the biggest powers in the Medieval world.

A true highlight of the tour comes at the end with an all-inclusive half hour gondola ride with a professional gondolier. With only 6 people maximum per gondola, your experience will be intimate and relaxing as you punt through the quieter hidden canals of Venice. This is your time to relax, unwind and enjoy the city at its best!
